BUGATTI 57SC ATLANTIC
1938 Supercharged 3257cc Inline 8 Cylinder.
The Bugatti 57SC Atlantic is one of the most beautiful and bizarre cars ever made. Designed by Ettore Bugatti's son Jean Bugatti, the car is an interesting mix of aircraft styling together with the avant-garde tear-drop that is so reminiscent of the thirties. Its sophisticated engineering is cloaked with probably the most original and dramatic coupe coachwork ever produced. A symphony of rivets, fins, electrons, aluminum, and steel. Captain Nemo Would have loved this car.
The Atlantic was build in a limited edition of just three cars and the final Atlantic is owned by Ralph Lauren who owns the global fashion brand. With a strong inclination towards important and authentic cars, Ralph includes chassis number 57591 as a highlight in his collection. Being sensitive to authenticity, Ralph commissioned Paul Russel to comprehensively restore 57591 using as many original parts as possible. During the restoration, Paul and his team discovered details such as original tan goatskin upholstery and seats filled with horsehair bags wrapped in muslin. After the project was complete it was shown at the 2000 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance where it won best of show. Like many of Ralph's Bugattis the car is finished in black. It is possible Ralph's car was originally French Racing Blue.
The Compulsion Gallery team have created a stunning sculptural version of this historic car, which is a limited edition of only 1500 castings worldwide.
