On 17th July 1964 at Lake Eyre Salt Flats in Australia, Donald Campbell achieved 403.1mph in Bluebird CN7.

On December 31st he set a new water speed record of 276.33 at Durnbleyung Lake in Australia.

Thus becoming the only man to achieve land and water speed records in the same year.

On January 4th 1967 Donald Campbell achieved a run of 297mph on his first leg at Coniston Water, Cumbria.

He was travelling at over 300mph on the return leg when his boat Bluebird flipped over backwards and he crashed to his death.

RAF Wing Commander Andy Green drove the JCB Dieselmax to a new world land speed record for diesel-powered cars at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah USA in August 2006.

The JCB streamliner recorded a two-way average of 328.767 mph, with a run of 324mph in one direction and 333mph in the other.
